In short: Perimeter 81 is now Check Point SASE. Check Point agreed to acquire Perimeter 81 in August 2023, sold the platform as Harmony SASE, and now calls it the Check Point SASE platform. The perimeter81.com website and its support site redirect to Check Point. The product provides zero trust private access, secure internet access and an enterprise browser, licensed per user.

From Perimeter 81 to Check Point SASE

Perimeter 81 built a cloud-delivered network security platform aimed at replacing the corporate VPN: users signed in to an agent, and administrators gave them access to specific networks and applications from a web console. It was popular with organisations that wanted something simpler to run than VPN concentrators and firewalls.

The brand has changed twice since then:

PeriodNameWhat happened
Before 2023Perimeter 81Independent SASE and zero trust access provider
August 2023AcquisitionCheck Point announced it would acquire Perimeter 81 to build out its SASE offering
After the acquisitionHarmony SASEThe platform joined Check Point's Harmony family and became the successor to the older Harmony Connect service
NowCheck Point SASEcheckpoint.com titles it the Check Point SASE Platform (formerly Harmony SASE), listed under the Hybrid Mesh Network Security pillar

Today perimeter81.com redirects to Check Point's SASE site, and the old Perimeter 81 support site redirects to the Check Point SASE Administration Guide. If you search for Perimeter 81 documentation, that is where you will land. Some of the guide's pages still refer to "SASE (Perimeter 81)" workspaces, which is the legacy account type.

What Perimeter 81 does today

The core of Perimeter 81 survives as Check Point SASE:

  • Private Access: the zero trust network access that Perimeter 81 was known for, with agent-based and agentless access, device posture checks, dedicated gateways and a full-mesh global private backbone
  • Internet Access: a hybrid secure web gateway with on-device and cloud inspection, web and DNS filtering, malware protection and browser security
  • Enterprise Browser: a secure browser for unmanaged and contractor devices
  • SaaS Security and SD-WAN, also in the Check Point SASE suite

The platform is now managed through the Check Point Portal alongside other Check Point products, and organisations with Check Point firewalls can manage the SASE internet access policy from SmartConsole.

What existing Perimeter 81 customers should expect

If you started on Perimeter 81, your service carries on as Check Point SASE. The points that matter in practice:

  • Your workspace: an existing SASE (Perimeter 81) workspace can be migrated so it is reached through the Check Point Portal (formerly the Infinity Portal). The Portal account's data residency region must match the workspace's, so check that before you create an account
  • Billing: after migration you can keep the existing billing arrangement or move licences into a Check Point User Center account, which you need if you want other Check Point products on the same contract
  • Shared gateways: Check Point withdrew shared gateways from 12 August 2026, and every network needs at least one dedicated (private) gateway. If your configuration relied on shared gateways, it needs reviewing
  • The agent: the client is now the Check Point SASE agent. Plan agent updates through your device management tool rather than leaving users to update manually
  • Integrations: check identity provider connections, such as Microsoft Entra ID or Okta, and your networks and tunnels after any change
  • Licensing at renewal: renewals are quoted as Check Point SASE, licensed per user. Older Perimeter 81 plan names may not map one-to-one, so review which components you actually need

We can review your current Perimeter 81 configuration and tell you what, if anything, needs to change.

Should you stay, extend or move?

At renewal, Perimeter 81 customers usually take one of three paths:

  1. Renew as is on Check Point SASE, keeping the same users, networks and policies
  2. Extend: add Internet Access to retire the remaining backhauled internet traffic, or Enterprise Browser for contractors
  3. Consolidate: combine SASE with other Check Point products, such as Harmony Endpoint or Harmony Email and Collaboration, under one portal

Frequently asked questions

Who owns Perimeter 81?

Check Point Software Technologies, which announced the acquisition in August 2023. The product was renamed Harmony SASE and is now marketed as the Check Point SASE platform.

Is Perimeter 81 still available?

Not under that name. The same platform is sold as Check Point SASE, and the perimeter81.com website and support site now redirect to Check Point.

What is Perimeter 81 called now?

Check Point SASE. Check Point's website titles it the Check Point SASE Platform (formerly Harmony SASE).

Do Perimeter 81 customers need to migrate?

The service continues as Check Point SASE. Legacy Perimeter 81 workspaces can be migrated so they are managed through the Check Point Portal, provided the data residency regions match, and any network that used shared gateways needs a dedicated gateway now that shared gateways have been withdrawn. We can review your tenant and plan the changes.

Is Perimeter 81 a VPN?

It began as a VPN replacement. Today, as Check Point SASE, it provides zero trust network access to specific applications, secure internet access and an enterprise browser rather than a traditional network-level VPN.
